Motorline merchant guide
Use the theme editor
Open Online Store > Themes > Customize. The page selector at the top changes the template being edited. Changes to a template affect every resource assigned to that template, while product, collection, page, blog, and article content comes from Shopify admin.
Use the editor to add, remove, reorder, hide, and configure sections and blocks. Preview desktop and mobile layouts before saving.
Available sections
Motorline includes announcement marquee, hero, slideshow, collection tiles, featured products, featured product, image with text, rich text, trust content, FAQs, newsletter, blog posts, video, product recommendations, Custom Liquid, and app sections. Shopify's product, collection, search, cart, page, blog, article, contact, password, and gift-card templates are included.
Brand and layout
Set the favicon in Theme settings and the storefront logo in the Header section. Global color and typography settings establish the shared visual system; individual sections may offer their own layout, alignment, spacing, and content controls.
Navigation
Build menus under Content > Menus, then select them in Header and Footer settings. Standard nested menus support up to three levels. The optional mega menu uses an exact top-level trigger title and collection blocks with collection-image fallback. Always test its desktop panel and mobile accordion after editing the menu.
Products and variants
Product availability, inventory, price, compare-at price, variants, option values, media, and descriptions are controlled in Shopify admin. Motorline updates the selected variant's state and pricing without creating separate products.
Use product-template blocks to arrange title, vendor, price, options, quantity, purchase controls, tabs, description, sharing, and app content. Product tabs can use editor text or Shopify content sources. Shipping-timeline text should match the merchant's actual policy.
Product media
Motorline supports images, video, external video, and 3D models. Product media opens in an inspector where supported. Use consistent aspect ratios when possible and add useful alternative text to media in Shopify admin.
Collections and recommendations
Assign products to collections in Shopify admin. Configure related and complementary products with Shopify Search & Discovery. Recommendation sections remain empty when Shopify has no eligible recommendations.
Search and filtering
Predictive search is available from the header. Collection and search filters depend on Shopify's filter configuration. If no filters are configured, shoppers can still browse and sort.
Cart and checkout
The cart drawer and cart page use Shopify's native cart. Depending on configuration, they display discounts, selling plans, unit prices, notes, terms, payment icons, and accelerated checkout. Checkout payment methods and behavior are controlled by Shopify and the merchant's payment settings.
The optional free-shipping bar is managed in the Overlay group. Set its currency threshold to match the store's actual shipping offer.
Customer accounts
The account control uses Shopify's customer-account component. Its destination and signed-in state depend on the customer-account configuration in Shopify admin.
Markets and localization
Country and language selectors require corresponding Shopify Markets settings. Translate theme strings through locale files or Shopify's translation tooling, and translate merchant content separately.
Forms
The contact template submits through Shopify's native contact form. Newsletter blocks submit through the Shopify customer form. Test success, validation, consent, and email-delivery behavior with the merchant's configured email service.
Apps and custom content
Use app blocks or app sections for compatible Shopify apps. Use Custom Liquid only for trusted code. Third-party scripts and apps can change accessibility, performance, appearance, and cart behavior, so retest affected templates after installation.
Accessibility and performance
Use concise headings, descriptive link text, media alternative text, sufficient contrast, and readable font sizes. Test the storefront using a keyboard, 200% browser zoom, and mobile screen sizes. Compress uploaded media and avoid unnecessary third-party scripts.
Theme updates
Back up the current theme before installing an update. Shopify can preserve editor settings where section and setting identifiers remain compatible, but custom code edits may need to be reapplied manually. Preview and test the updated unpublished copy before publishing.
